An Online Degree: Good? Bad? Or Spoiled Egg?

Currently in today's society, an online education is becoming acceptable. Reminisce to a time when you were either admitted into a hospital or doctor's office, you would probably be a bit uneasy to hear the doctor explaining how he became a doctor online. But, according to Vault, Inc., their survey demonstrates that “85% of employers feel that online degrees are more acceptable today than they were five years ago.” Just like campus based schools, there are schools with great reputations, bad reputations, and occasionally a spoiled egg. This same concept applies to the online institutions as well.
When looking for a reputable online program, accreditation is the most important criteria to validate in order to prevent yourself from finding a "spoiled egg." In simplistic terms, accreditation means that a college has proven that what they are teaching is current and factual. The methods they use to teach successfully meet the standard requirements set by the National Education Association. If a college is not accredited, then it is looked at as inferior because it may not comply with current educational standards. University of Phoenix, DeVry University and Kaplan University are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA-HLC), and the Higher Learning Commission, because they have made a commitment to providing a quality education for their online students.
To make the most of your education, you have to be willing to take the extra steps, because you are the only one that can control the outcome of your educational journey. It's important for taking time to find out the quality of the courses the school has to offer, the legitimacy of the professors, and the access to direct communication with your classmates and faculty.
Again, take your time and be selective when choosing a program and University. Whether your interested in becoming a licensed practical nurse, dental assistant, or a registered nurse, always look at all your options before putting all your eggs in one basket. With that said, acknowledge the advice and make use of this because, it would be a shame to waste your time and money and end up with a "spoiled egg."
